Gugulethu

Gugulethu is Canyon Coal’s latest mining operation that is located between Davel and Hendrina in the South African Province of Mpumalanga.  

The developmental stage of phase 1, which consists of open-cast mining has commenced. This will be followed by phase 2 of operations which is underground mining. The estimated life of mine for Gugulethu is in excess 20 years, with a production rate of approximately 200 000 tons a month.  

Relevant authorisations including the mining right, water usage license and environmental authorisation have been granted.  Gugulethu’s Social and Labour Plan was drafted according to the developmental needs of the surrounding community.
