SINGANI

Our opencast Singani Colliery was located 30 km east of Middleburg, Mpumalanga, and commenced mining in September 2014. At peak production, the mine produced 130 000 tons a month of run of mine (RoM) coal. The resources were depleted in 2019. We are currently actively rehabilitating Singani.

The rehabilitation of the former opencast Singani Colliery located 30 km from Middelburg has reached an important stage with the completion of earthworks in June 2021. We are committed to rehabilitating the site to agricultural land. Topsoil cover of the area will be able to sustain plant life. It will be free-draining and will not pose a risk to human or environmental health.

Hakhano

Hakhano Colliery was our first opencast coal mine, commencing operations in 2009 and is located 20 km east of Middelburg, Mpumalanga. The reserve was depleted in 2019.  Rehabilitation planning is currently underway and the execution thereof will commence in August 2022.

As part of the rehabilitation, the 400 ton/hour processing plant will be dismantled and moved to the Gugulethu project, located to the South of Hendrina, Mpumalanga. The remainder of the site will be fully rehabilitated in accordance with the mine’s water use license and environmental management programme.
