Themba reaps the rewards of his hard work

Khanye Electrician, Themba Mthimunye

When Themba Mthimunye applied for a general worker position at Khanye Colliery, many were surprised given his qualifications as an electrician. “We must all start somewhere. Although it might not seem like the best option, you never know where you will end up,” he states. While working as a general worker, Themba’s dedication made him stand out, leading him to act as a general foreman and later as an electrician in the workshop, while fulfilling his duties as a general worker.

After applying for an electrician position twice, he was successful on his second try. “I started in February 2025, acted as a foreman by April, and was appointed as an electrician in September,” he recalls. Themba appreciates the guidance and support of Khanye Foreman Peet Schoeman and his long-term friend Norman Matjila. Peet was impressed by Themba’s strong work ethic and gave him his first acting role as a general foreman. Meanwhile, Norman recognised Themba’s potential to become a successful electrician and encouraged him to obtain a qualification in that field when they were studying together. “Norman played a significant role in my career by helping me qualify as an electrician and obtain my trade certificate,” says Themba.
