Gugulethu HR Superintendent, Lindokuhle Sithole

Gugulethu Colliery’s Human Resources (HR) Superintendent, Lindokuhle Sithole, has over 15 years of experience in human resources, adding value to her role. “I’m responsible for HR, covering all components, like recruitment and selection, training and development, employee relations, and compliance with labour laws,” Lindokuhle explains.

Her career began in 2010 after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Sociology at the University of Zululand. She entered the mining sector as an intern, then worked as an HR Officer for five years before relocating to Hendrina for another role in a coal mine. “That’s where I was exposed more to learning and development and realised my strength in employee relations in the highly unionised environment,” she says.

Lindokuhle further studied the Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Law from the University of Johannesburg. She is passionate about employee relations and ensuring fair, lawful practices in the workplace. “My role is to ensure all parties are compliant and supported,” she says. She also plays a key role in aligning HR practices with business objectives, advising line managers, and intends to roll out awareness campaigns on gender-based violence (GBV) and anti-absenteeism.

“We are a diversified organisation with both men and women of different ages. Employees need to understand that GBV can be perpetrated from both ends,” Lindokuhle remarks. She plans to pursue her studies in the Management Development Programme to develop her skills further. “I would like to see myself as an HR expert within Canyon Coal, not just at Gugulethu,” she says.
