Vacancy: Financial Manager
The company would like to recruit a Financial Manager to be based at Canyon Coal’s Head Office in Sandton.
DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a proactive, detail-driven Finance Manager to oversee the daily accounting operations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. In this role, you will oversee a team of five Financial Accountants, review and approve their work, and step in to resolve complex transactions or issues as they arise.
The position requires a hands-on approach – you will prepare financial statements, regularly review ledgers, reconcile key accounts, oversee month-end and year-end close processes, prepare tax calculations and ensure all statutory and compliance requirements are met. You’ll also prepare and review management reports, presentations, cash flow forecasts, and other financial documents to keep leadership informed and support timely business decisions
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Chartered Accountant (South Africa)
A minimum of three years' post-articles experience
Previous working experience in a mining environment will be an advantage
Proficient in MS Office with advanced Excel skills
Sound understanding of a financial control environment and the management thereof
OTHER SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
Sound knowledge of IFRS accounting principles and standards, and corporate tax legislation and compliance
Knowledge of MS Dynamics 365 (D365) will be an advantage
Knowledge of Draftworx
Ability to prepare accurate financial statements, management accounts, and cash flow forecast
Familiarity with internal control systems and audit requirements
Strong analytical skills for investigating variance and trends

EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 3 years’ post-articles experience in the finance or mining industry is essential
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the financial accounts on a day-to-day accounting duty.
Coach, train, mentor and develop others.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and reporting efficiency.
Co-ordinate and lead the year-end audit process for designated companies, ensuring timely completion.
Financial Reporting
Corporate Income Tax, VAT and Royalty Tax
Preparation and Drafting of the Annual Financial Statement
Management Accounts
Financial reporting - accurate and complete monthly consolidation of financial results
Financial and administrative support and oversight
External auditor engagements
Budgets, forecasts, and cost management
Stock management - monthly/weekly reporting and adherence to SOP's
Reporting - daily financial reporting and cash controls
Fixed Asset management
Payroll review and submission of monthly payroll
Stakeholder and staff (financial and administration) management
