Vacancy: Chief Health and Safety Officer
The Company would like to recruit a Chief Safety Officer to be based at Khanye Colliery in Bronkhorstspruit.
DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this role is to optimise safety and risk control systems, as well as ensure legal compliance at the mine.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Grade 12
COMSOC 1 & 2
Blasting Certificate or Trade certificate
Computer literacy
National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, Mining Engineering, Engineering or a related discipline.
BTech is advantageous
Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in Health and Safety Department in mining environment, plus 3 years in managerial role
English proficiency
Valid driver’s license
Valid certificate of fitness
Sound knowledge of risk management
Incident and accident investigation course or skills
Contractor management
Knowledge of relevant legislation
Knowledge of the Underground Mining, Opencast Mining, and/or Engineering works
OTHER SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
Physically fit and able to pass a medical/fitness test.
Ability to operate without supervision and be able to work under pressure.
Be a self –starter and able to work according to deadlines.
Integrity, reliable and ethical.
Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Hold legal appointment: 2.17.4
Ensure adherence to all legislation as required by MHSA to ensure that the mine stays in good stead with the Authorities.
Compile Safety Improvement Plans, ensure plans are in place for operations.
Conduct regular H&S inspection as required in regulation 2.19.1 and 2.19.3.
Report accidents and occurrences to DMR (required reportable).
Co-ordinate and participate in Risk assessments for Operations.
Conduct accident and critical incident investigation and report.
Participate in the compilation of COP’s, Standards and procedures and continuously keep the documents updated.
Assist and participate in the investigation of unsafe conditions when employee excise section 23 right as granted in MHSA.
