Vacancy: Shift Supervisor

The Company would like to recruit a shift supervisor to be based at Khanye Colliery in Bronkhorstspruit.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12

  • English proficiency

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Knowledge of Opencast Mining management and practices

  • Competent A

  • Must be familiar with the MHSA Act

  • Dewatering practices and management of pumping team experience

  • Certificate of competency for excavator, water bowser, diesel bowser, grader, dump trucks, dozers and TLB

  • Opencast Blasting Certificate (advantage)

  • Engineering qualifications (advantage)

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years relevant supervisory experience in a coal mining environment

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, organise and monitor the production process.

  • Ensure optimal plant utilisation & availability.

  • Ensure compliance to health and safety policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Shift line-up and hand-over

  • Management of pit dewatering strategies

  • Technical supervision; Ensure that there is a daily production plan and co-ordinate the plan

  • Ensure that all machines are operating to the daily production plan

  • Communicate the requirements of the production plan to the operators

  • Hold safety talks daily

  • Carry out daily inspections of the site

  • Carry out PTO’s

  • Check that pre-start check lists are done

  • Report near misses and other potential hazards.

  • Clean up any hydrocarbon spills

  • Ensure that the site maintains a high level of good housekeeping

  • Monitor progress for hourly production target

  • Enforce discipline

  • Ensure that all operators are competent and licensed to operate

  • Ensure that protective devices are in good condition

  • Conduct risk assessments

  • Conduct a high wall/slope and safety berm inspection daily

  • Enforce safety, health and environmental integrity principles applicable to area of responsibility.

  • Manage employees time and attendance

  • Report any discrepancies to line manager
