Stores clerk keeps supplies replenished

Keamogetswe Makola, Stores Clerk

Whether you're looking for PPE, spare parts, or basic grocery items at Khanye Colliery, Keamogetswe Makola, the mine’s stores clerk, is the person to see. She runs a tight ship, making sure that the mine has enough supplies to stay productive all year round.

“Without this department, this mine will not be able to run, because everything that’s needed is here,” says Keamogetswe. She keeps track of inventory and orders items ahead of time to avoid shortages. Inside the storage facility, items are neatly packed on rows of shelves, labelled and placed according to categories.

When a request comes in, Keamogetswe knows exactly where to source it.  “There are a lot of machine parts that you need to learn. It can be challenging at first because some of the things are very similar with slight differences,” she says.  Despite the sometimes-challenging work, Keamogetswe enjoys doing what she does. She hopes to become an accountant in the next four years, while still working in the mining industry.

Born in Zithobeni Extension 2, Bronkhorstspruit, Keamogetswe began her career as a stores clerk in 2021 through an internship at a different company, where she worked until 2025.  She holds a Financial Management qualification and is currently pursuing a management accounting degree with UNISA.
