Promotion sparks growth
Khanye Auto Electrician, Zandile Masanabo
Zandile Masanabo has ventured into the dynamic world of auto mechanics within mining. While she initially had her sights set on an electrical engineering internship at Khanye Colliery, the company spotted Zandile’s potential for a position as an auto electrician assistant. Earlier this year she was promoted to be an auto electrician. “Being part of the most experienced team of engineers and artisans at Canyon Coal has added a lot to my skills development in a short space of time,” says Zandile.
Her role as an auto electrician includes inspecting all the yellow machines, making sure they function properly. A critical aspect of being an auto electrician is being able to troubleshoot and solve problems very quickly. “Every morning, I go and inspect the machinery, replacing the light and making sure the hooter is working,” says Zandile.
Born in Ekangala, Zandile later relocated to Soweto where she attended her schooling. She completed her matric at Orlando High School. After finishing Grade 12, she enrolled at the Ekurhuleni East College, where she completed her N3-level in electrical engineering. She is currently doing her N4 level at the Tshwane South TVET College. Zandile also hopes to do a trade test.
