Visible leadership is key to smoother operations
Khanye Colliery’s General Engineering Superintendent (GES), Siyasanda Ntshuntsha
Being visible on the ground is a crucial aspect of effective leadership, according to Khanye Colliery’s General Engineering Superintendent (GES), Siyasanda Ntshuntsha. Siyasanda joined Khanye in December 2025, after moving from Gugulethu Colliery.
She leads a team of approximately 55 employees, including 22 Artisans, 22 assistants and general workers, among other technical personnel. Her leadership approach entails regular visits to the various teams and joining toolbox talks to ensure alignment within her area of responsibility. While much of the planning and deliberation takes place in the office, Siyasanda believes that leadership is most effective when leaders spend time with their teams.
“I need to be out in the field to do the planned task observations. That’s where the team will also get to know me, and we can stay aligned,” she says. This year, her goal is to maintain a machine availability rate of above 90% while ensuring Zero Harm.
