Vacancy: Safety Officer (Fixed-Term Contract)
The company would like to recruit a Safety Officer to be based at Gugulethu Colliery within the Msukaligwa Municipality.
DESCRIPTION:
To maintain the highest standard of health and safety within his / her areas of responsibility, communicate the health and safety standards, implement health and safety programmes, conduct health and safety inspections, investigations, and audits.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Grade 12
COMSOC 1 & 2, SAMTRAC
HIRA certificate
Computer literacy
English proficiency
Valid driver’s license
Valid certificate of fitness
Knowledge of the MHS Act and regulations
OTHER SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Physically fit and able to pass a medical/fitness test
Ability to operate without supervision and be able to work under pressure
Be a self –starter and able to work according to deadlines
Integrity, reliable and ethical
Sound communication and interpersonal skills
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3 years relevant experience as a Mining Safety Officer
Safety rep experience in a mining environment is an added advantage.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure medical, induction and operator licensing compliance and update access cards and red permits.
Ensure that training matrix is updated.
Assist with hazard identification and risk assessments.
Ensure planned task observations (PTO) compliance.
Monitor near miss reporting.
Conduct safety inspections in high-risk areas as scheduled.
Attend line-up meeting and assist with toolbox talks.
Assist in training on Standard Operating Procedures and Codes of Practice.
Compile a monthly report indicating safety-related matters and statistics
Perform emergency evacuation drills as scheduled.
Report all incidents immediately and perform in-loco investigations
Implement safety initiatives as required by DMRE office and/or Mine Management.
Participate in the Health and Safety committee,
Co-ordinate safety training for the site.
Enforce safety, health and environmental integrity principles
