Vacancy: Safety Officer
The company would like to recruit an Safety Officer to be based at Khanye Colliery, in Bronkhorstspruit.
DESCRIPTION:
The ideal candidate needs to maintain the highest standard of health safety within his / her area of responsibility. This includes communicating health and safety standards as well as implementing health and safety programmes and conducting health and safety inspections, investigations and audits.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Grade 12
COMSOC 1 & 2, SAMTRAC
Computer literacy
English proficiency
Valid driver’s license
Valid certificate of fitness
Knowledge of relevant legislation
OTHER SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Physically fit and able to pass a medical/fitness test
Ability to operate without supervision and be able to work under pressure
Be a self-starter and able to work according to deadlines
Integrity, reliable and ethical
Sound communication and interpersonal skill
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in health and safety department
Experience in a mining environment is essential
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must be willing to work flexible hours
Ensure that all medical surveillances are up to date and implemented on site
Ensure that all employees have attended the required induction programmes
Ensure that the training matrix is updated
Assist with hazard identification and risk assessments
Conduct planned task observations (PTO) programs in the area
Conduct mini-risk assessments done in the area
Assist with behavioural (at risk) monitoring of employees
Ensure pre-start checklists are done in the area
Conduct safety inspections
Conduct safety talks
Assist with the training of firefighting teams
Ensure a high level of good housekeeping in his / her area
Ensure the compliance of the hazardous chemical register on sites
Train all employees on Standard Operating Procedure and Code of Practice in the area of responsibility
Collate all daily safety report and compile a monthly safety report for the area
Test the site emergency procedures
Collate the incident register for the sites in the area
Collation of the statistics of all sites under his / her control
Complete all COID forms correctly
Implement safety initiatives required by the specific site's mine management
Investigate and evaluate causes of any accidents and incidents on the sites
Participate in health and safety committee, to coordinate all safety training for the sites in the area, and enforce safety, health and environmental integrity principles the sites
