Alan Gillespie is Managing Director of Mercuria Energy Trading South Africa, a position he has held since 2009. He has over 20 years’ experience in commodity trading and managing investments in mining assets. He has extensive international experience having lived in London for several years where he worked for the likes of Duke Energy Merchants, Williams Energy and Tradition Financial Services. Before joining Mercuria he spent several years at Cargill South Africa.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from The University of The Witwatersrand.
Jason Jianyun Sun
Jason Jianyun Sun is currently Chief Investment Officer – Asia of Mercuria Energy Group Limited, looking after Mercuria’s investments across Asia and overseas investments with Chinese partners. He also represents Mercuria on the investment committee of Canada-China Global Natural Resources Fund, a $10bn fund approved by State Council to promote outbound investments from China to North America. Since he joined Mercuria, he has been working on the introduction of a Chinese strategic investor, ChemChina, into Mercuria as a shareholder. He also helped Mercuria develop new businesses in China, especially in metals, coal, gas and oil products.
Before joining Mercuria, he worked in Bank of China International, Macquarie Capital and McKinsey in Hong Kong focusing on natural resources sector and on helping Chinese clients access Hong Kong capital markets and conduct cross-border M&As.
He holds a BA and MA in Economics from Peking University and he is native in Chinese and fluent in English and Japanese.
Mehboob is a hands-on businessman. He started his career in selling hardware goods in a humble shop in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town. He grew the business to be the most revenue earning branch of Campwell Group in less than 10 years. After the group was sold to a JSE listed company he grew his capital with the investments in real estate and resources. He is actively involved in coal, limestone and stone quarry operations and projects in Mpumalanga and North West provinces.
Rudzani has diverse experience in the environmental management field, he started working in 2006 for the Department of Mineral Resources until 2011, During his period with the Department of Mineral Resources he was exposed to the following; Evaluating the Environmental Scoping Reports, Environmental Impact Assessment, closure reports, Environmental Management Plan and programs submitted for Prospecting, Mining permits and Mining Rights Applications. In 2011, he started his own business and since 2012 he is a partner of Canyon Coal.
Vuslat Bayoglu is the founder and executive chairman of Canyon Coal, a mid-tier coal mining company. He is the managing director of Menar Capital which has controlling stakes in Canyon Coal, Minerano Resources, Zululand Anthracite Colliery and Sitatunga Resources. He has an honours degree in mechanical engineering and 16 years’ experience in the mining industry. He is a hands-on investor and his investment company focuses on developing mines through exploring greenfield/brownfield projects and acquiring operational assets.
